The challenge

This customized system is equipped with -50℃ pre-cooling tank, low-opening extraction tank, plate centrifuge, extract storage tank and customized long-stem cryogenic pneumatic ball valves. Compared with conventional -20℃/-30℃ systems, it faces greater technical challenges.
  1. Cold stress: Extremely low temperature at -50℃ may cause cold brittleness and deformation of tanks, pipes and valves. Solution: Adopt low-temperature resistant stainless steel and conduct stress relief treatment.
  2. Sealing: Seals tend to harden and leak at ultra-low temperature. Solution: Apply low-temperature resistant fluororubber seals with multi-stage sealing structure.
  3. Temperature control: Heat loss and uneven temperature occur among connected units. Solution: Use thickened thermal insulation and high-precision closed-loop temperature control system.
  4. Fluid & valve control: Low temperature increases ethanol viscosity and affects valve operation. Solution: Optimize flow passage and adopt cryogenic pneumatic actuators to ensure stable flow and flexible valve movement.

project goals

The primary goal of this project was to design and manufacture a fully customized integrated CBD production system with -50℃ ultra-low temperature ethanol extraction for Capna Systems, breaking through the technical bottlenecks of traditional low-temperature extraction equipment while ensuring process performance, operational safety, site adaptability and long-term reliability.

Based on the customer’s raw material properties, slurry characteristics, site constraints and international explosion-proof standards, we set four major objectives. Firstly, we overcame technical challenges under -50℃ ultra-low temperature, including cold stress, seal failure, overall temperature deviation and unstable fluid delivery. Custom components such as pre-cooling tank, low-opening extraction tank and long-stem cryogenic pneumatic ball valves were optimized to realize continuous operation across pre-cooling, extraction, solid-liquid separation and liquid storage.
Secondly, the system was designed for stable throughput ranging from 25 to 75 L/min. Equipped with plate centrifuge, it efficiently handles highly cohesive and compressible slurry, improving the extraction rate of target ingredients and effectively removing impurities to guarantee final product quality.
Thirdly, the whole system complies with Class 1 Division 1/2 explosion-proof requirements for flammable solvents like ethanol. The compact layout fits the limited footprint on site, with sufficient space reserved for operation and maintenance. Fourthly, all parts were specially upgraded for ultra-low temperature service to simplify operation and reduce maintenance costs.
